ORPHANED LAND Taking Break From Live Shows To Focus On Writing
February 10, 2007Israeli metal band ORPHANED LAND is taking a six-month break from live shows in order to focus on writing its new album, "The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR". The CD will be produced by Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE, BLACKFIELD, OPETH) and is tentatively scheduled for release in 2008.
Commented vocalist Kobi Farhi: "After playing almost 100 shows and many festivals in 24 countries, we decided that in order to finish the album we must stop and focus on writing. Our writing process is very long anyway, and we hope to finish all [as soon as possible] and to hit the studios again. We are very much exited to work with Steven Wilson."
ORPHANED LAND's November 25, 2006 show at the Theatre Club in Tel-Aviv, Israel was filmed by the makers of the documentary "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" for their upcoming follow-up film, "Global Metal", which will explore the global spread of heavy metal music and culture. "The goal of this film is to discover what is happening in metal scenes around the world," co-directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn previously said. "Metal has spread throughout Asia, South America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and even Africa. We want to discover what metal means to musicians and fans who come from these diverse cultures."
"Global Metal" is the follow-up film to "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", which explored metal's impact and controversy over the past 35 years and featured interviews with Tony Iommi, Bruce Dickinson, Alice Cooper, Ronnie James Dio, SLAYER, Dee Snider, ARCH ENEMY, LAMB OF GOD, CANNIBAL CORPSE, EMPEROR and many more.
ORPHANED LAND last year completed three special concerts to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of their second album, "El Norra Alila". The concerts, which took place in Israel and Turkey, saw the band perform a two-hour set consisting of the entire "El Norra Alila" CD along with selections from the band's other albums.
ORPHANED LAND is a band which combines progressive heavy/death-metal rock with ethnic Middle Eastern/Arabic/Israeli elements, a unique hybrid of styles that contributed to Steven's decision to work with them. The group has recorded three albums to date, the most recent of which, "Mabool", was their Century Media debut.
